Let's not confuse poor form with ability. Very relevant here, because many of these relegated players are in poor form but have a lot of ability.

I watched a match Payet played for Marseille a couple of years ago where he literally couldn't do a thing, every flick or trick or pass failed. The Mascherano we saw at West Ham couldn't play a 5-yard pass!

Have to look beyond that somewhat if we're trying to accurately measure the worth of a player.

Townsend gets my vote.

I wouldn't want us to spend £1.5Mil on Moses.

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Exactly. There's a price where buying Moses is a shrewd buy, and a price where it becomes an unnecessary risk. On paper nobody disagreed he was 'better than what we have' at the start of the season, but at the £15m+ quoted it might have been a very costly mistake.

It does require big risks and failures. Imagine if we'd spent some of our transfer budget on Moses?

The problem with that approach is that it's very expensive. It requires big gambles that risk big failures. It may be the best way to risk a big collapse.

A better way is to buy cheap and develop. Hence looking at players that might be good value that can improve to our level.

Also need to consider what might be required if we make Europe, where having quality throughout the squad becomes much more important. I certainly don't want to see the situation from last Summer where we essentially throw the European campaign because the squad isn't big enough to cope with it.

Just Townsend ~ but only at a sensible price!

I thought we are a fucking club aiming higher, until I see some of the fucking names mentioned on here.

Janmaat? Mitrovic? Wijnaldum? The rest of their team must have been fucking horrific if these 3 are worthy of taking us to the next level.

Jack Grealish?

Could Bilic sort him out?

Adama Traore at Villa looks useful-been out injured since Feb but lots of potential

Hahaha, Colback left Sunderland for a team going places, he got that spot on, Burton Albion it is then

Isn't it normally Levy circling like a vulture at this time of the year

alfie

with burke and oxford as young back up and four good CBs already i really dont think we need another, and i highly doubt they will be letting him go anyway, those that they will want shot of are the higher earners, not a player who will likely be an ever present for them next season.

Hoolahan! Fuck we can do a lot better than that. We are not in the championship anymore.

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Lascelles at newcastle has sown a bit of potential. might be good to have on board to back up the CBs. i thought Dummet at left back wasn't bad wither but he's injured quite a bit and it not better than cresswell but we do need cover there

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Redmond if we cant get anyone better, but please not Janmaat, too slow, seems more worried about this hair most games.

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
not scrolling all the way through this but surely Wijnaldum should be the one player we should actually want to sign from these. direct competition for Lanzini, in a better team than Newcastle he could prove to be a great player, certainly flashed this year.

Trevor B 5:24 Thu May 12
Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Who said we wouldn't do both? You do agree that redmond would be a step up on Moses though, right? And the fact that moses has started 16 games this season. Just because he might not be first choice doesn't mean he hasn't played a lot, and anyone that plays that much of a part but can be replaced with a better player that improves the team.
